What a DHA job usually looks like
DHA Karachi is our busiest area in the city and the one where storage is most often tied to a departure. Phases 1 to 8 cover a lot of ground and a lot of housing type, from old bungalows to new apartment blocks, and the jobs run from a single flat to a five bedroom house going into a container.
Most households we collect from DHA land on a 10 x 20, which is 200 square feet and runs PKR 40,000 to 50,000 a month. That is a guide and not a quote. What decides it is the volume you actually have, not the number of bedrooms you started with, and two houses of the same size rarely need the same unit once one of them has sold its wardrobes and the other hasn't.
The rent covers the space and the security. Collection and delivery are quoted separately, because a third-floor flat with no lift and a ground-floor house are not the same job, and pricing them the same means one of you is paying for the other.

Why people in DHA take a unit
Storage is rarely something anyone planned for. These are the three reasons we hear most often from DHA Karachi specifically.
Leaving the country
Karachi is where most of the people we store for are leaving from, and DHA is where most of them live. The pattern is always the same. The flight is fixed, the house has to be empty before it, and the decision about what to ship can wait while the decision about where to put it cannot.
Waiting on a seafreight date
A container date and a handover date rarely land in the same week. Storing the shipment in the gap is normal, and it's a great deal safer than leaving a packed house standing empty while a booking confirms.
Landlords and long lets
A DHA house lets faster unfurnished. Your own furniture goes into a unit for the length of the tenancy and comes back when it ends, which is a smaller monthly number than most owners expect.

One national rate. DHA Karachi isn't priced differently to anywhere else we operate, so if somebody local is quoting you more for the same floor area, this is the number to hold them against.

Collection day
Bungalows, blocks and the lanes between them
The phase roads take a truck without complaint. Two things change a day. Some of the older commercial lanes and the tighter residential streets in the lower phases won't take a three-tonne vehicle to the door, which means a shuttle and a bigger crew. And the apartment blocks are a different job entirely from the houses: the lift decides it, and if the building wants that lift booked for a move, it's worth arranging when you book rather than on the morning.
None of this changes your monthly rent, which is based on the floor area you take and nothing else. It changes the collection quote, and we would far rather it changed the quote than the morning.
How a collection runsOne thing we do not do: cold storage
We do not offer refrigerated or temperature-controlled storage. Our units are dry, ventilated and pest-controlled, which is right for furniture, appliances, documents and household goods, and wrong for anything that needs to be kept cold. If you need cold storage, we would rather tell you now than take a booking we cannot honour.

Can you store a household until my container is booked?
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons people call us from DHA. The minimum is one month and it runs month by month after that, so a shipping date that slips by three weeks doesn't cost you a new contract. It costs you another month.
Should I take a unit or a container?
It depends on the volume, and the honest answer is that a container is not automatically cheaper. Compare the per square foot figures on the rate card against the unit band before you decide. A container is a sealed box at a flat monthly rate that nobody else shares, which some people want for its own sake, and the largest one does work out below the unit floor per square foot. The smaller one sits inside the unit band rather than under it.
I'll be abroad when it comes out of storage. Who can collect it?
Whoever you nominate. Tell us who it is and we'll deal with them. You'll have the inventory and the seal photographs from intake, so you can check the list against what's delivered from wherever you are.
Do you cover all eight phases?
Yes, and Clifton and the areas around them. Karachi collection is priced as one service area rather than by distance from the facility, so a Phase 8 address isn't charged more than a Phase 2 one.
